The Kensington (Canine) Goes Out: Yappier Hour at the Liberty Hotel
It turns out you can dress up your dog, and take him out. All summer long and into the fall, the posh and pet-friendly Liberty Hotel hosts a Wednesday “Yappier Hour” where both you and Gigi can socialize in style. (And yes, some of the dogs do come dressed for the event.)
If you don’t know the Liberty Hotel, you should. A few years back, someone saw potential in the architectural beauty of the building that was once the Charles Street Jail. Sitting at the bottom of Beacon Hill, the luxe Liberty Hotel is now one of Boston’s most popular destinations, with five food and drink venues: Clink, Alibi, Scampo, the Liberty Bar and Catwalk. Beyond the beauty of the place, the hotel takes “pet friendly” to a whole different level.
Friends report staff greeting dogs with as much gusto as any other guest. And with the warmer months comes the opening of “The Yard,” an outdoor patio off the Liberty Bar with plush seating, a cash bar — and, on Wednesdays, dogs of every shape and size. On- or off-leash, the dogs get gourmet treats and the run of a fenced-in area while their owners enjoy drinks and snacks from Clink. Not too shabby.
Now in its sixth year, the event was first known as “Yappy Hour” — but it was such a blast for everyone, it just got “Yappier.” In fact, neighborhood pups who can’t wait to start the evening sometimes meet up at Paul Revere Park by the Zakim Bridge and trot over to Yappier Hour together. There’s no cover charge, for you, Rex or Roxxie. Yappier Hour happens from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays, as long as the weather cooperates.
